Sri Lankan Airlines adopts IT platform ahead of Oneworld membership

8 Feb 2013

Sri Lankan Airlines have announced that it and sister airline Mihin Lanka will be using Amadeus’ next generation IT suite by 2014.

This allows Amadeus IT Group to manage mission-critical reservations, ticketing, inventory and departure control processes.

This move facilitates the carrier's anticipated acceptance into the Oneworld airline alliance (see here), since Amadeus is the standard IT platform for Oneworld and over half of the members use the Amadeus Altéa suite which Sri Lankan will be adopting. Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines, for example, use the system, and Garuda Indonesia and Eva Air are scheduled to start doing so in 2013.

For Sri Lankan, the first phase of adopting the new tech management system will be completed this year, and will include reservations, inventory and ticketing modules. The second phase – which includes the Altéa departure control system module  – will be adopted in the first half of 2014. This will make the carrier the first airline in the Indian subcontinent to use the Altéa Suite.

“Implementing Amadeus’ Altéa suite is crucial to the evolution and expansion of Sri Lankan Airlines and our inclusion within the Oneworld global alliance. The Altéa suite will truly modernise our IT processes," says Kaplia Chandrasena, director and chief executive officer of Sri Lankan Airlines.
