De Vere to open three Scottish properties

6 Feb 2013 by ScottCarey7

The De Vere hotel group has announced it will be adding three new properties to its Village Urban Resorts collection after securing sites in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh.

The Village Urban Resorts chain aims to provide “spacious design-led guest rooms with stylish furniture, flat screen televisions and free wifi throughout.”

Each property will include a Velocity health and fitness centre with a fully equipped gym, a 20m swimming pool, whirlpool spa, sauna and steam room.

The new-build hotels are expected to open in 2014, and will follow the "Black Box" design shown below.

Food and beverage options will include a Victory Chop and Ale House serving pub classics, and a Starbucks franchise. Each property will also feature dedicated meetings and conferencing facilities and event space.

Robert Cook, CEO of De Vere said: "We don't currently have any presence for the De Vere Village Urban Resorts brand in Scotland, but there are great opportunities for business here. It's a booming market at the moment - with major events like the Commonwealth Games taking place, there’s an even greater demand for hotel accommodation.

“We have identified Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh as the main hubs for tourism. What's more, it's easier for us to find top locations near to city centres in Scotland than south of the border – there is more space to build full service resorts and at a better price."

De Vere confirmed that it is looking to roll out the Village Urban Resorts brand further across the UK, next focusing on university towns including York, Oxford, Cambridge and Bristol.

De Vere rebranded its Village hotels to Village Urban Resorts in June last year, with a planned initial rollout programme of 15 hotels (see online news June, 2012).
