Priority Club makes changes to redemption rates

25 Jan 2013 by ScottCarey7

Intercontinental Hotels Group’s Priority Club has amended its Reward Night redemption categories, as of January 18.

Rates are now split in to nine categories, with category one now set at 10,000 points per night and the top category nine now 50,000, with the scale rising in denominations of 5,000 in-between, so for example, category four now requires 25,000 points. Reward Nights at all-inclusive resorts will also include a 10,000-point supplement to cover the all-inclusive benefits.

Previously redemption rates were charged depending on the IHG brand. Now, for example, the Holiday Inn at Gare Montparnasse in Paris is charged at 35,000 points a night, and the Holiday Inn at Charles de Gaulle is 20,000 as they are category six and three properties, respectively. An example of a category nine property is the Intercontinental Park Lane in London, which will cost 50,000 points per redemption night.

Business Traveller contacted IHG for details of the previous redemption table for the sake of comparison, but the group was unable to provide this.

Up until March 18 Priority Club is allowing members who have planned to book a hotel that has now moved up a category to reserve at the original price by calling the Priority Club Service Centre on 0871 226 1111 (UK).

The new categories are calculated according to: “Brand, average rates, occupancy, location, Reward Night demand, other IHG hotels in your area, seasonal fluctuations, and the volume of Reward Nights booked at your hotel,” says a Priority Club spokesperson.

Additionally Priority Club is running a 5,000 bonus point promotion on all stays at 22 selected Intercontinental properties in European until April 8. Properties include the Intercontinental hotels in Vienna, Paris Le Grand, Berlin, Amstel Amsterdam, Warsaw, Moscow Tverskaya and the new Intercontinental London Westminster. Members must pre-register for this offer online.
