Snow disrupts UK airports

18 Jan 2013 by BusinessTraveller

Snowfall is affecting airports across the UK today (Friday January 18).

Southampton airport is closed until at least 1700, while the BBC is reporting that Heathrow has been forced to cancel around 170 flights.

The London hub's website advises that "Due to severe weather conditions across the UK and Europe today, a number of flights are subject to delay or cancellation".

There are no updates available on Cardiff airport's Twitter or Facebook pages, but its website advises that the airport has reopened at 1030, albeit with cancellations.

Birmingham airport has been closed for snow clearing, with its Twitter page stating that "All operations are suspended until approximately 1800".

Gatwick airport posted the following on its website homepage at 1300:

"There is snow at Gatwick and more snowfall is expected during the course of today. We advise you to check the status of your flight with your airline before travelling to the airport and to allow extra time for your journey to Gatwick as road and rail networks may be impacted.

Several train companies are operating revised timetables today - travellers are advised to check the latest situation before departing.
