From February 1 onwards, passengers of Tiger Airways and its partner airlines will be able to make transfers at in Singapore in the fashion of a through itinerary. The programme, named "tigerconnect", is part of a larger platform called Changi Connect by Changi Airport. When passengers make the booking for their flights and the layover in Singapore is less than eight hours, the service is automatically included for S$16 (US$13). But tigerconnect is optional for those whose layovers are more than eight hours.
Tiger is the second low-cost carrier (LCC) to offer this convenience at Singapore's main airport after Scoot. Currently, all passengers on LCCs other than Scoot have go through immigration, bag collection and check-in again when catching connecting flights at Changi. They may also need a visa to enter Singapore for the procedure. But starting from next month, when "tigerconnect" comes into effect, passengers on Tiger and Mandala can collect their onward travel boarding passes at the transfer desk at Singapore Changi Airport transit area upon arrival, leaving them time to enjoy the amenities on the airside.
Paul Rombeek, president director of Mandala Airlines, added, “Tigerconnect adds convenience for Indonesian travellers on our flights, many of whom transit at Singapore Changi Airport en route to destinations such as Australia, China and India.”
Tigerconnect applies to Tiger Airways’ network of some 50 destinations, including those of partner carriers Mandala Airlines and SEAir, as well as on joint-itineraries offered with Scoot.
To mark the launch of tigerconnect, Tiger Airways will offer up to 50 per cent discount on select routes. The booking period for the promotion is January 10 to 16.
