China Airlines to move operations at Vienna airport from T3 to T1

7 Jan 2013

Taiwanese flag carrier China Airlines will move its operations at Vienna International Airport from Terminal 3 to the newly renovated Terminal 1 on January 9, 2013, bringing it close to other SkyTeam members operating out of the same terminal, such as KLM and Alitalia.

After six months of renovation, Vienna International Airport’s Terminal 1 – known as Check-in 1 – reopens this month with improved aesthetics (lighting, walls, floors) and better facilities, including free wifi.

China Airlines’ relocation to Terminal 1 is part of a wider SkyTeam programme that aims to bring members of the alliance under one roof in order to make airport procedures more streamlined for their passengers. Launched in 2012 and dubbed SkyPort, the co-location programme brings customers benefits of shared check-in areas and easier connections, stated a spokesperson from SkyTeam. Transferring to connecting flights is made easier since all member carriers arrive and depart from same terminals. The programme started off at London Heathrow Terminal 4, Tokyo Narita and Beijing Capital International Airport.

Vienna is an important destination for China Airlines, serving as a gateway to the rest of Europe. The carrier flies to the destination twice a week with an 80 per cent average payload.
