Dubai airport tests A380 concourse

17 Dec 2012 by BusinessTraveller

Over 1,000 volunteers have taken part in a test run of the first A380 concourse at Dubai airport’s Terminal 3, ahead of its opening next year.

Concourse A will be the world’s first dedicated A380 facility, and will be used by Dubai-based Emirates, along with its new global partner Qantas.

The airport conducted departure, arrival and transit trials with 1,100 volunteers over the weekend, testing way-finding signage, passenger flows, and trialling many of the new food and beverage outlets at the terminal.

The new A380 concourse is part of the airport’s Terminal 3 complex, and will increase annual passenger capacity from 60 million to 75 million when it opens in 2013.

With passenger numbers forecast to reach 66 million next year, Dubai airport’s CEO Paul Griffiths said that the new concourse was “a timely and welcome addition to Dubai International, putting us firmly on track to reach our target of becoming the world’s best and largest airport in terms of service and international passenger numbers”.
