The Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, which has hosted former heads of state including Bill Clinton and Hu Jintao on their visits to Hong Kong, plans to begin renovating its guest rooms from January next year.

The hotel’s standard rooms were last refurbished in 2000, with renovation of the suites carried out two years later. The new design intends to create “adaptable spaces and places within the room”.

The rooms will be fitted with new bathrooms, lighting and furniture with the aim of maximising the use of space. Their curtains will be replaced by blinds to help make the most of the Victoria Harbour views.

In terms of décor, whilst keeping the focus on refined comfort rather than anything extreme, the rooms will be given a warmer and brighter feel. There will be more earthy tones, with dark wood replacing the light beech currently used.

Each room will have brightly coloured paintings alongside the existing black-and-white photographs.

The first stage of the renovation will start in January 2013 and involve floors 12 to 26, with the work expected to be complete by the summer of 2014. During the renovation the hotel will dedicate a buffer floor both above and below the affected floors. Up to 380 guestrooms and suites will still be available.
