Comair to launch Johannesburg-Maputo route

10 Dec 2012 by BusinessTraveller

BA franchisee and Oneworld affiliate member Comair is to launch a new service between Johannesburg and the Mozambique capital of Maputo.

The daily service (double daily on Tuesday and Saturday) will launch in May, and has been designed to offer connections for BA passengers connecting through Johannesburg and on to Maputo.

Flights are now sale through the BA Contact Centre and through travel agents, and will “shortly” be available through ba.com, as well as the website for Comair’s low-cost subsidiary Kulula.

Commenting on the new service BA’s marketing manager Shaun Pozyn said:

“We are excited to introduce our new service as it allows us to continue to grow our footprint in Africa. In addition to the large volumes of business travellers we anticipate will make use of our new service,  Mozambique is fast becoming known as a world-class tourist destination.

"The country has a warm climate, 2 700km of tropical and sub-tropical coastline, world-class conservation areas, exotic cities, and a rich Arabic, African and Portuguese heritage.”

BA Executive Club members traveling on Comair services earn Avios and tier points.

There are currently no direct, non-stop flights between the UK and Maputo – Star Alliance carrier South African Airways offers connecting through Johannesburg.
