Brighton City Airways plans Paris route

3 Dec 2012 by BusinessTraveller

Start-up carrier Brighton City Airways has announced plans for a new twice-daily service between Shoreham airport near Brighton, and Pontoise airport, located around 16 miles northwest of Paris.

The new flights are scheduled to launch on March 6, and will be operated by 19-seater LET-410 turboprop aircraft, with a seat pitch of around 29 inches.

Flights will depart Shoreham at 0830 and 1700, arriving at Pontoise at 1030 and 1900 respectively, with the return legs leaving Paris at 1100 and 1930, landing back into Shoreham an hour later at the same UK time.

Note that on Saturday and Sunday only one daily service will operate – the morning outbound and return flights on Saturday, and the early evening services on Sunday.

Brighton City Airways says it will offer a 15-minute check-in, and “complimentary tea or coffee in a VIP lounge”. The carrier’s website also states that:

“The aircraft is not equipped with toilets, so it is important to bear this in mind before boarding!”

Fares start from £69 one-way including taxes, credit card fees and 6kg of hand luggage – hold luggage can be purchased separately at £10 per one-way flight.

Aside from the planned Shoreham-Pontoise launch route, the carrier says it has “huge plans for future routes that will always follow our original model”.

Brighton City Airways will compete with Eurostar’s high-speed rail services from London’s St Pancras International and Paris’ Gare du Nord station, as well as Air France and BA services between Heathrow and Paris CDG, Easyjet flights from Luton to CDG, Cityjet services from London City to Paris Orly, and BA flights from Heathrow to Paris Orly.

There are currently no non-stop scheduled services from Gatwick airport to Paris – regional flights are also available from Southampton airport to Paris Orly with Flybe.

Pontoise airport is mainly used for general aviation, but in the past has seen scheduled services to and from Luton airport operated by the defunct British carrier Debonair.

To co-incide with the launch of the Brighton City Airways services, Shoreham airport says it will rename the facility as Brighton (Shoreham) airport.
