Shenzhen Airlines joins Star Alliance

29 Nov 2012 by BusinessTraveller

Shenzhen Airlines has been officially inaugurated into the Star Alliance, joining stakeholder and Chinese flag carrier Air China.

The airline brings 400 daily flights and 70 destinations to the Star Alliance network, including new routes from Shenzhen airport to five Chinese cities: Juzhou, Linyi, Qinhuangdao, Shijiazhuang, and Zhoushan.

Shenzhen Airlines first announced plans to join the alliance in July last year, with majority shareholder Air China assisting the carrier in the integration process.

Fellow Chinese carrier Shanghai Airlines was previously a member of Star Alliance, but defected to Skyteam following its merger with China Eastern Airlines (see online news July 29, 2010).

Shenzhen Airlines’ entry into Star Alliance follows Chinese carrier Xiamen Airlines' integration into Skyteam earlier this month (see online news November 21).
