LOT Polish Airlines has become the eighth carrier and first European airline to take delivery of the Boeing B787 Dreamliner.
The carrier will operate the aircraft on short-haul routes "across Europe" during December, before rostering the Dreamliner onto its Warsaw-Chicago service from January, followed by routes to New York, Toronto and Beijing.
LOT has a total of eight B787s on order, configured for 18 business class seats in a 2-2-2 layout, 21 premium economy seats configured 2-3-2, and 213 economy seats configured 3-3-3.
Speaking at the delivery event in Seattle, LOT’s CEO Marcin Pirog said:
“This is a historic moment for LOT. I am convinced that the addition of the Dreamliner to the fleet of one of the world's oldest airlines is a crucial moment that will launch a new era of European aviation. I believe it is also the beginning of an exciting journey for LOT with the most modern passenger airplane in the world."
LOT joins ANA, JAL, Ethiopian Airlines, Air India, LAN, United Airlines and most recently Qatar Airways in taking delivery of the Dreamliner.
