Air New Zealand unveils Hobbit in-flight safety video

6 Nov 2012 by BusinessTraveller

Air New Zealand has unveiled its latest in-flight safety video, inspired by the forthcoming movie The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Describing itself as “the official airline of Middle Earth”, ANZ has partnered with New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn Mayer to produce the safety video, as well as Hobbit-branded B777 aircraft, and will also run a “series of exclusive competitions and unique fan opportunities”.

The carrier is well known for creating innovative in-flight safety videos, including last year’s “Fit to Fly” video, and the “Bare Essentials of Safety” featuring body-painted staff.

Entitled An Unexpected Briefing, this latest video features cameos of the film’s director Peter Jackson and fictional character Gollum, as well as secret Elvish codes, offering viewers the chance to win a trip for two to New Zealand, including a tour of the Hobbiton movie set, a visit to the Weta Cave in Wellington, and double passes to the red carpet global premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

For more information and to enter the competition visit airnzcode.com/hobbitmovie. The film's global premiere takes place in Wellington on November 28.

This week ANZ confirmed it will withdraw from the London-Hong Kong route from March 4 next year, and announced a new codeshare agreement with Cathay Pacific (see online news November 5).
