Fans of American Airlines wishing to sample the carrier's brand new B777-300ER will have to wait a further six weeks.
American had planned to place its flagship plane into service on December 13 between Dallas and Sao Paulo. The carrier was then intending to roster the B777-300ER for its Dallas-London Heathrow route on January 31 with New York JFK to London Heathrow following in February (see online news May 24).
But production problems with the first class seating on this aircraft has prompted American to postpone the launch.
Instead passengers will be rebooked on one of the carrier's existing B777-200ERs. According to flightglobal.com the introduction of the B777-300ER on UK routes will be delayed accordingly.
American has 10 B777-300ERs on order. They are fitted with the latest first and business class seating along with American's version of premium economy.
Mind you, economy class passengers may not be too disappointed by the delay seeing as their seating on the B777-300ER will be disposed 3-4-3 as against 2-5-2 on American's existing B777 fleet (see online news May 28).
