United gears up for Dreamliner launch

2 Nov 2012 by BusinessTraveller

United’s B787 aircraft has completed its Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification process ahead of its inaugural commercial flight between Houston and Chicago this weekend.

The launch flight is set to take off from Houston at 0720 CST on November 4, having completed a month-long certification process visiting several of United domestic hubs.

The carrier has now taken delivery of two of the 50 Dreamliners it has on order. United has confirmed that its Dreamliner will operate on flights from Houston to both Amsterdam and London Heathrow “on a temporary basis”, with the Amsterdam B787 service beginning on December 4, and Heathrow seeing the Dreamliner from February 4 (see online news August 23).

To coincide with the inaugural flight United has also launched a virtual tour of the aircraft at unitedhub.com, where visitors can find out more information on the Dreamliner’s engines, windows, wing technology, cargo capabilities, cabin lighting and flight deck, as well as virtually sampling the aircraft’s Business First seating.
