Sheraton to open new Shanghai hotel in January

5 Sep 2012

Sheraton is opening a new hotel in the northeast of Shanghai’s Pudong New District at the start of next year.

The Sheraton Shanghai Waigaoqiao Hotel will have 451 rooms, including 84 deluxe kings (45-48 sqm), 210 deluxe doubles (39-48 sqm) and 71 superior kings (54 sqm).

All rooms will feature Sheraton's signature Sweet Sleeper beds, a large workspace, and free high-speed internet access.

The hotel is located inside the Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone. This was one of the first such zones to be established in China, and offers international companies a favourable business atmosphere and preferential policies. The zone is home to over 135 Fortune 500 companies.

A hotel spokesperson said the group had chosen to open the new property because there were very few international hotels currently planning to establish properties in this part of Shanghai.

The hotel expects to cater mostly to corporate travellers and MICE participants, the spokesperson said. It will provide 2,129 sqm of meeting space including four ballrooms and six functions rooms.

The area is well-connected to other parts of the city. The Lujiangzui Financial District is 15 km away by highway, and can also be reached from the nearby metro station. Pudong Airport can be reached in 20-30 minutes by car.
