Sankara Nairobi opens rooftop champagne bar

16 Aug 2012 by BusinessTraveller

Luxury hotel Sankara Nairobi has opened what it claims to be the city’s first rooftop champagne bar, providing guests with a place to, “relax, indulge and watch the world go by"

Located on the seventh floor, the new champagne bar, which opened on August 3, will be hoping to build on the success of Sankara Nairobi’s The Gallery wine bar that won the Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence last year.

The bar offers a champagne list consisting of over 20 selected vintages, including Pierre Jouet, Krug and Dom Perignon, and a canapé menu that offers oysters, salmon and truffles. Single malt whiskies and spirits will also be available, set against a backdrop of the city’s impressive skyline.

The hotel says that the bar will be perfect for those, “looking for a relaxing glass of champagne in the early evening or indulging in a late nightcap.”

Technophiles will also be intrigued, as the menu is accessed on iPads running a “bespoke sommelier application,” which allows guests to filter their champagne choice by region, colour and grape. A recommendation section is also available, along with tasting notes and pairings.

Sankara Nairobi - the opening of which was covered by Business Traveller in June 2010 - is located in the Westlands area of the city, and has 156 rooms as well as a club lounge, spa, rooftop pool and gym. The champagne bar will be a new addition to the hotel’s existing four dining venues.
