Carriers launch post-Olympics sales

16 Aug 2012 by BusinessTraveller

British Airways and Virgin Atlantic have both launched sales to encourage bookings following the end of the Olympic Games.

During the Games BA regularly used the phrase "Don’t Fly. Support Team GB and Paralympics GB" in its advertising.

But following the end of the Games the carrier has announced the "Go After The Games Sale", for bookings made by September 25, and with "Hundreds of flights and holidays across the globe for you to choose from".

For those asking "but what about supporting the Paralympics GB?", travel dates for the sale begin the day after the close of the Paralympic Games on September 10, for selected dates until July 12, 2013.

Business Traveller readers have been discussing the latest sale on our forum, with some having success in booking sale flights, but others questioning which destinations are on offer.

Meanwhile rival carrier Virgin Atlantic has launched its own sale, also running until September 25 (September 3 for Upper Class fares). The sale is advertised as being "worldwide" on the carrier's website homepage, but when clicking through it takes you to fares for US destinations, including £1,932 to Chicago in Upper Class, and £1,682 to New York.
