Okura Hotels and Resorts has opened the second of its new Prestige brand hotels in Zhongshan district in central Taipei.
The Okura Prestige Taipei has 208 rooms, each with around 44 sqm of floor space, HD television, internet connection and electronic safe. The bathrooms, described by the group as “particularly luxurious”, feature rain showers and separate large bathtubs with waterproof televisions. Some rooms have small balconies.
The hotel has a business centre with services including shipping, faxing, scanning and colour copying. Its health club includes a massage room and gym facilities, as well as an outdoor heated swimming pool and sun terrace on the building's roof.
There are two restaurants: the Cantonese Toh-Ka-Lin, and Yamazoto, Okura’s signature restaurant which serves sushi, teppanyaki and a menu of kaiseki ryori (Japanese haute cuisine).
The hotel's location in the Zhongshan district of central Taipei places it 10 minutes' drive from Songshan Airport, the city's smaller international airport, while the larger Taoyuan Airport is 40 minutes away. The nearest metro station is within five minutes' walk, and the Taipei Main Station is one train stop away.
The opening of the Okura Prestige Taipei is part of a recent boom in hotel openings by international brands in Taiwan, after many years of local-brand hotels' domination (see story here).
Okura first launched their new Prestige brand with the opening of the Okura Prestige Bangkok on May 14 (see story here). Prestige aims to compliment the company’s other luxury brands by being especially chic and modern, with an emphasis on contemporary design and architecture.
