BA and Vueling launch interline agreement

11 Jul 2012 by BusinessTraveller

BA customers arriving at Barcelona’s El Prat airport will be able to interline onto any of 74 routes offered by low-cost carrier Vueling, following an agreement between the two carriers.

BA’s merger partner Iberia owns a major stake in Barcelona-based Vueling, so the move makes sense.

But note that according to the press release interlining will only be possible on flight purchases made through travel agents - something which may not be convenient for the individual traveller used to booking directly online.

Vueling currently serves 74 destinations from Barcelona El Prat airport, and saw a total of 700,000 connecting passengers at the airport during 2011, with a goal of reaching one million this year. The carrier says it “expects to sign between two to four new agreements with other airlines” during 2012.

The airline is itself operating a total of nine UK routes this summer: London Heathrow to Bilbao, Galicia, La Coruna and Vigo; Cardiff to Barcelona, Palma and Alicante; and Southampton and Edinburgh to Barcelona.
