Three hotels to open in Guangzhou by year-end

14 Jun 2012

Three new hotels – Four Seasons Hotel, Mandarin Oriental and Marriott – will open in Guangzhou by the year's end in the city's up-and-coming Tianhe and Pearl River New City districts, highlighting the city's transformation into an important international business city.

The 344-room Four Seasons will occupy the top 30 floors of the 103-storey International Finance Centre (IFC) Guangzhou, which lies within the new business district – Pearl River New City that, as the name suggests, overlooks the Pearl River – and close to the Guangzhou Pazhou convention centre. The hotel’s lobby will be located on the building’s 70th floor, which will feature a glass ceiling to bathe the area in natural light. There will be a total of six food and beverage outlets with four restaurants and two bars, one of which is located on the 99th floor. Other facilities at the hotel include a swimming pool, a gym and spa. The hotel is poised to open within the next two months and it is already accepting bookings from August 15 onwards.

Over in Tianhe, another emerging business district that already houses many hotels, such as the Sofitel Guangzhou Sunrich that opened last year (see story here), the Marriott and Mandarin Oriental will begin operations soon.

The Guangzhou Marriott Hotel Tianhe, poised to open some time this month, is located near the Guangzhou East Railway station. The 319-room hotel will offer four food and beverage outlets, including the brand’s signature Man Ho Chinese restaurant and Java+, the grab-and-go sandwich stall. Other facilities include an indoor swimming pool, a gym and a spa.

The Mandarin Oriental in Guangzhou, on track to open sometime this year although an exact timeline has not been provided, is part of the hotel group’s aggressive expansion strategy across China (see story here) that also includes new properties in Shanghai, Beijing and Chengdu in 2015. The hotel will be housed within the TaiKoo Hui mixed-use complex in Tianhe, which consists of a luxury shopping mall and office space.

The 263-room luxury hotel will also feature 24 serviced apartments catering to both short- and long-stay guests. The hotel will offer five food and beverage outlets, a spa, gym and an outdoor swimming pool.

The announcements of these three hotel openings come closely behind W Guagnzhou, which stated it hopes to open by the end of this year too (see story here).
