23 May 2012

Dragonair has announced it will launch a new four-weekly service between Hong Kong and Kolkata in winter this year, although a confirmed launch date has not been announced as it is subject to the opening of the new airport terminal in the Indian city. Kolkata will be the carrier’s second Indian destination after Bengaluru.

The flight, operated by an Airbus A320, will depart Hong Kong on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 2225 to arrive in Kolkata at 0015. The return leg will depart on Mondays, Thurdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 0115, touching down in Hong Kong at 0725.

According to the Times of India, Kolkata’s new terminal, with works of local author Rabindranath Tagore adorning the ceiling, is scheduled to open later this year.

Tagore became the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in 1913, in literature.
