Korean Air to increase checked baggage allowance

15 May 2012 by ReggieHo

Korean Air will convert its check-in baggage allowance system from weight-based to piece-based starting May 31 (based on ticketing date), effectively increasing the number of kilograms passengers are allowed to check in by a large margin. The change applies to all international routes except those to and from the Americas.

Currently, each economy passenger is allowed 20kg of check-in baggage but it will be changed to one piece of 23kg. Prestige (business) class allowance will increase from 30kg to two 32kg bags while first class passengers will enjoy an increase from 40kg to three 32kg bags. Additional baggage will be priced by item.

Members of the Korean Air frequent flyer programmes will benefit from further allowances, as detailed below.
