Swissotel Hotels and Resorts is set to continue its expansion into India by signing a management contract for the 300-room Grand Mumbai, due to open in 2014.
Located on Andheri Kurla Road, in the heart of a new business district just north of Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, the five-star business hotel will offer a total of 300 guest rooms, executive rooms and suites as well as 1600sqm of conference and banqueting facilities, including a 500sqm ballroom. The hotel will also house the Pürovel Spa and sport centre.
The Andheri Kurla area is home to approximately 20 per cent of Mumbai’s commercial office space and also features various shops, restaurants and a new metro line.
Meinhard Huck, President of Swissotel Hotels and Resorts said, “This exciting project at the heart of Mumbai’s commercial centre will drive forward our expansion in the highly promising Indian market.
“A robust domestic tourism industry coupled with the increasing global nature of Indian businesses is boosting business travel and providing a very healthy platform for the growth of the hospitality industry.”
This follows the Swiss group’s first Indian opening, Swissotel Kolkata in July 2010 (see online news May 9, 2010) and announced properties in the satellite town of Gurgaon and a third in Bangalore (see online news August 26, 2011).
