Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) loyalty programme has launched a new application for iPhone and iPod Touch that employ state-aware technology to make sure that guests have all the information they need on their handset every step of the way. Key features have been integrated into the app so that users are no longer directed to an outside browser, making access to information much faster. New options include searching hotels by airport codes or maps and a streamlined home screen with “tiles” users can tap or swipe to quickly find details on their accounts, upcoming stays, customer support and special offers.
Forty-eight hours before the guest is scheduled to arrive at the booked Starwood hotel or resort, the app sends a push notification. The “My Stay” interface will automatically access the home-screen to show key information such as hotel address in both English and the local language, weather, directions and hotel amenities. On arrival, the guest’s iPhone or iPod Touch will display the room number, on- and off-property dining and activity suggestions, and in-app access to social media channels such as FourSquare and Facebook.
The app is shared by all of Starwood’s nine brands and nearly 1,100 properties. It also offers an “Explore” tab for users without a specific destination in mind and want to search for recommendations based on their preferences such as trip type, such as beach holiday and city visit.
According to the hotel group, its mobile revenue has increased by more than 300 per cent year-on-year and customers using mobile devices to book rooms also tend to be more spontaneous. Two-thirds of these bookings are within 24 hours of the stay.
