AirAsia X ups frequencies to Taipei and Perth

14 Mar 2012

After ceasing flights to Christchurch (see story here), London Gatwick, Paris, Mumbai and New Delhi (see story here), AirAsia X has announced some positive news: it will increase flights to Taipei and Perth as part of the “network realignment strategy.”

The carrier’s daily flights between Kuala Lumpur and Taipei will increase to 11 per week from June 22 onwards and, two days later on June 24, the daily flights to and from Perth will become nine times weekly.

According to Azran Osman-Rani, chief executive of AirAsia X, passenger loads to Taipei and Perth were “in excess of 85 percent in 2011,” reflecting high demand for travel to these destinations.

Other ways in which the carrier has been strengthening its core markets is by launching a flight to Sydney (see story here) and increasing frequencies on the Kuala Lumpur-Tokyo route (as reported here), all of which suggest that the low-cost long-haul carrier's focus is now narrowing down to the Asia-Pacific region as opposed to long-haul, cross-continent routes.
