The carrier is trialling wifi connectivity on six A380 aircraft operating between Australia and the US. The trial will run for eight weeks and will be available to business and first class passengers.
Provided by On Air, the service will trial on A380 aircraft on routes from Sydney and Melbourne to LA, allowing premium passengers to access the internet and emails on wifi-enabled laptops and personal electronic devices.
The carrier says it is the first airline to offer wifi connectivity on direct flights between Australia and the US.
Qantas said the trial would “form part of Qantas' ongoing strategic evaluation of connectivity options, including the review of next generation technology platforms”, adding that following the trial it would “assess opportunities for the long-term application of internet capabilities across its A380 fleet”.
