With Southend airport’s new terminal now open, Holiday Inn is set to unveil a 129-room hotel with a sound-proofed rooftop bar and restaurant later this year.
The new-build property will be located on Rochford Road on the south side of the airport, close to the recently opened Southend Airport Rail station, with direct links to London’s Liverpool Street, and Stratford International for the Olympic Park.
IHG’s official webpage for the hotel currently says it is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2012, although previous releases have stated the property will be open in time for London 2012, and a recent job advertisement on caterer.com for the hotel’s revenue manager quotes the hotel as opening in July.
According to IHG the hotel will offer 11 executive rooms and four suites, along with a sound-proofed rooftop bar and restaurant for up to 100 guests, offering “spectacular, panoramic views of the airport and surrounding area”.
Southend airport officially opened its new terminal this week (see online news March 5), with Easyjet set to launch 70 flights per week to and from the airport from the start of April, to destinations including Alicante, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Belfast, Faro, Ibiza, Jersey, Malaga and Mallorca.
