China Southern has announced it will temporarily deploy the Airbus A380 for the daily Beijing-Hong Kong service – the carrier's first international destination to be served by the world's largest passenger airliner.
The superjumbo will replace the A321 currently used for this route from March 2 to March 24. Further plans have not been announced. As a result of the aircraft switch, the carrier has adjusted its schedule, departing from Beijing 80 minutes later than usual at 0850 and arriving in Hong Kong at 1220. The return leg will depart Hong Kong at 1440, arriving back in the Chinese capital at 1750.
Bookings for the A380 flights are now open.
China Southern received its first A380 in October last year (see story here) and since then has only deployed it for domestic services, specifically the Guangzhou-Beijing and Beijing-Shanghai routes.
