18 Jan 2012 by BusinessTraveller

The Indian Hotels Company has announced plans to debut its Taj and Vivanta by Taj brands in the southwestern Chinese city of Kunming.

The owners of Taj Hotels, Resorts and Palace has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Yunnan Tourism to “engage in the development, construction, operation and management of two hotels in Kunming Expo Garden”.

No specific details have been given about the properties or their opening dates, aside from their planned branding under the Taj and Vivanta by Taj offerings.

Kunming is the capital of China’s Yunnan province, which borders Burma, Laos and Vietnam. Other hotel brands set to open in the city include Sofitel, Hilton and Crowne Plaza.

Taj does not currently operate any properties in China, although contracts have been signed for it to manage the Taj Temple of Heaven Beijing, and a Vivanta by Taj hotel in Hainan Island.
