Etihad Airways has unveiled the first of its aircraft to be fitted with mobile phone and wifi internet connectivity.
The carrier has launched three A330-300 aircraft with both wifi and mobile capabilities, along with an A320 (used on short and medium-haul routes) with mobile phone connectivity.
A second A320 fitted with the technology will be delivered in March – on these aircraft passengers will be able to make and receive phone-calls, send and receive text messages and emails, and access mobile data services.
Etihad says that “during the launch phase” wifi internet access will be offered from US$20, while mobile phone connectivity will be offered from US$10. Mobile phone calls will be charged according to the user’s international roaming rates.
The carrier’s A330-300 aircraft operate on long-haul routes including London, Frankfurt, Paris, Geneva, Casablanca and Seoul. For a review of this aircraft’s offering on a flight between London and Abu Dhabi last year, click here.
