China Airlines' direct Taipei-London service under review

11 Jan 2012 by ReggieHo

Bookings for China Airlines’ twice-weekly flights between Taipei and London are not being accepted for beyond March because the route is being reviewed, a source from the airline has confirmed with Business Traveller.

Rising oil prices and passenger load factor have been cited as two of the reasons for the move. Options being considered include rerouting and turning it into a codeshare service with a Skyteam partner.

Yesterday Business Traveller reported that the airline's reservations system is no longer displaying availability on the route beyond late March, and according to airlineroute.net the GDS timetables and inventory displays are also showing no flights on the route from March 25 (see online news January 10).

According to the source, demand for this direct flight has been inconsistent since it was launched in March 2010, but the airline is also keen to keep its network as wide as possible.

The airline cannot confirm when a decision will be made on this route.
