Heathrow’s latest writer-in-residence Tony Parsons has given a reading from his book Departures: Seven Stories from Heathrow.
The collection of short stories takes a look at characters working behind the scenes at the airport, from air traffic controllers to immigration officers, pilots and firemen, and follows Alain de Botton’s A Week At The Airport: A Heathrow Diary in 2009.
Seven Stories From Heathrow is Parsons’ first collection of short stories, and was inspired by the 1969 novel The Airport by the late Arthur Hailey. Parsons’ reading of one of the stories - The Pilots’ Room - was streamed on Heathrow’s facebook page, and 5,000 copies of the book were given away to passengers at the airport.
