Fun apps for the road

The apps world is on a roll, with new apps released everyday offering almost everything we may need. In our previous list of apps we covered essential apps that would help doing business on the go (see story here) and this week we cover ways to unwind while travelling. 

Instagram: If photography is one of your passions but you don’t have your camera, Instagram serves as a nice substitute. Pictures can be taken and edited with several filters, including Lomo-fi and Earlybird. Pictures can also be shared through social media channels.

Gadgets: iPhone and iPad

While on a work trip you may come across articles you want to read, but don’t have the time. You can send them to Instapaper, which will
save them so that you can read them later. When downloaded, the content will be available offline too so that you can read while on the plane or out of wifi covered areas. Furthermore, when installing Instapaper, users will need to create a special account so that longer emails or newsletters can be forwarded to this address to read later as well.

Nike Training Club:
This collaboration between Apple and Nike is hugely popular for those who want to kip fit on the road. The app acts as your own personal trainer with 60 full body workouts that last for 30 to 45 minutes long with demonstrations. The more you work out, the more Nike Training Club (NTC) points you earn, unlocking even more workout regimes.

Calorie Counter Pro:
This app helps you keep track of the calories you consume to make sure you stick to your diet while on the road. The app has a database of 416,000 foods and a barcode scanner so that you can accurately record what you are eating. It also helps you keep track of the amount of water you consume and the amount of calories you burn.

Simply Being:
Simply Being focuses on relaxation, stress relief and meditation, providing you with guided meditation either with or without music and nature sounds for 5, 10, 15 or 20 minutes long,
