Lufthansa to launch Dusseldorf-Tokyo route

17 Oct 2011 by BusinessTraveller

The carrier will fly six-times weekly between Dusseldorf and Tokyo Narita from June 2012, adding to existing flights from Frankfurt and Munich to the Japanese capital.

The route will commence on June 1, using an Airbus A340-300 configured for eight first class seats, 48 in business class and 165 in economy.

Flight LH716 will depart Dusseldorf daily (except Tuesday) at 1300, landing in Tokyo at 0730 the following day, with the return leg LH717 leaving Japan at 0900, landing back in Germany at 1420.

It’s the first time the carrier has offered a direct, nonstop flight between the two cities, although in the 1970s and 1980s it did fly from Dusseldorf to Tokyo with a technical stop in Anchorage.

Lufthansa also flies from Frankfurt and Munich to Tokyo Narita, while subsidiaries Swiss and Austrian also fly from their respective hubs in Zurich and Vienna.
