Hyatt announces major China expansion

Hyatt is to open two Hyatt Place hotels and a Hyatt House property in Shanghai, and has announced eight new Grand Hyatt and Hyatt Regency hotels across China.

Hyatt will bring its recently launched extended-stay Hyatt House brand (see online news September 20) to Shanghai in in 2014, with the opening of the 77-room Hyatt House Shanghai Jiading. The 210-room Hyatt Place Shanghai Jiading is also set to open next summer, with both properties located within a mixed use development comprising commercial, residential, and recreational areas.

The 150-room Hyatt Place Xinjiangwan will be located in the Yangpu district, and is scheduled to open in early 2015.

In addition Hyatt has announced a total of eight new full service management agreements under development across China, including Grand Hyatt properties in Hefei, Lijiang, and on the Shenzhou Peninsula, along with four Hyatt Regency hotels in Shanghai, and one in Zhenjiang.

The announcements mean the group has a total of 32 Hyatt-branded hotel under development in China.

Meanwhile Hyatt is set to debut its Andaz brand in Asia later this month, with the opening of 24-storey, 307-room Andaz Shanghai.

Located in the Xintiandi entertainment area of the city, the hotel is taking reservations for arrivals from October 19, and features rooms starting from 41sqm, signature restaurant Hai Pai (a mixture of French bistro and Shanghainese brasserie), 11 meeting and events spaces including the Glass Pavillion surrounded by water, and a 2,200sqm spa with swimming pool and fitness centre.
