Onboard internet access will be available on select Japan Airlines (JAL) international flights from summer 2012.

JAL’s fleet of Boeing 777s on routes between Japan and Europe, as well as North America, will be equipped with Panasonic Avionics’ eXConnect broadband Ku Connectivity solution. (Use of the service while the aircraft is flying in Russian air space is subject to prior approval.)

The airline plans to equip its long-range fleet with internet connectivity before subsequently expanding the service to the rest of its international network.

Passengers in every cabin class will be able to use their wifi-enabled electronic devices to access the internet during their flight. Costs for internet usage apply and will be announced at a later date.

Recently, Qatar announced it will expand its onboard connectivity services to its fleet of A350XWB aircraft from 2013 onwards (see story here).
