The Ascott is aggressively expanding in India. It has recently soft-opened The Somerset Greenways Chennai, with 48 apartments ready to serve customers. Its remaining 139 units are expected to be complete by the end of the year. The serviced residence offers one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments with fully equipped kitchens, separate living areas, and facilities such as rooftop Jacuzzi amidst a landscaped garden.
This move follows the opening of another property by The Ascott: Citadines Richmond Bangalore (See story here).
The two brands cater to different customers – Somserset Serviced Residences are designed for executives and their families while Citadines properties are more suitable for the independent traveller.
The group has another five serviced residences in the pipeline for India, offering more than 1,100 apartment units in total. They are expected to be all open for business by 2015. By then, the group is expected to have 4,000 apartment units in the country.
“Besides Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad, we will look at extending our footprint to other cities including Mumbai, Pune and New Delhi,” said Mr. Ronald Tay, The Ascott’s chief investment officer.
