Finnair will be flying an Angry Birds themed flight between Helsinki and Singapore on September 20, which will host the first Angry Birds Asian Challenge game onboard the flight.
Eight Angry Bird fans will be hosted for the ride. They must prove they are indeed the biggest enthusiasts of the game online by sending in a small description of themselves between now and September 12,2011. The five most popular fans with the most votes from the general public will be awarded tickets on this flight while another three fans will be selected by a jury. They will then slog it out onboard by playing Angry Birds on specially programmed game consoles.
Participants must be 18 years or above and all accommodation costs will also be covered. The prize includes “flights from your nearest Finnair airport to Helsinki and from Singapore to your nearest Finnair airport,” thus ensuring participants from around the world can be included.
The winner will be crowned Angry Birds Asian Challenge champion at Changi International Airport on September 21 upon arrival.
All the other passengers on the flight will also be able to participate in the Angry Birds game competition. Furthermore, the flight, operated by an Airbus A340, will offer passengers Angry Birds plush toys while cabin crew will be dressed in Angry Bird outfits.
The game, developed by Finnish entertainment media company, Rovio, has turned into a worldwide phenomenon since it was launched in 2009. “The Angry Birds game has been downloaded onto various platforms over 350 million times,” said Peter Vesterbacka, Rovio’s marketing manager. “We are delighted to be able to bring the new Angry Birds games and experiences to a growing fan base.”
