InterContinental Hotels Group announced it will bring the world's largest Holiday Inn property to Macau, to be located within the forthcoming Sands Cotai Central integrated resort in the entertainment district of Cotai Strip. The development will also consist of Macau’s first Conrad property (see story here).
The 1224-room Holiday Inn is slated to open next year along with the rest of yet another multi-purpose complex in the bustling area. The Sands property will bring 6000 rooms to the strip as well as dining, gaming, retail and entertainment facilities to lure leisure travellers and MICE groups alike.
As reported earlier (see story here), since the opening of The Venetian Macao in 2007, the Cotai Strip has seen the opening of a number of integrated resorts. According to IHG, 90 percent of these properties cater to the very high-end segment of the market. The new Holiday Inn, however, will aim at the mid-market segment, which is expected to thrive on the backs of robust economies across the Asia-Pacific region fuelled by growing middle classes.
With two distinctly different properties under one roof, Sands Cotai Central will be the first resort in the district to bring together both market segments. “Cotai Central will specifically provide both high-end branded products for premium guests, and accommodation for affordable luxury,” said Edward Tracy, president and chief executive of Sands China.
