Budget carrier Jet2 will offer a three-times weekly service to Rome’s Fiumicino airport from March 29, 2012.
Flights will depart from Glasgow airport on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, with Jet2 using Rome’s largest airport, officially known as Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino, located around 22 miles from the city centre.
Jet2 will be the only carrier to offer direct flights to Rome from Glasgow airport, although Ryanair does fly from Glasgow Prestwick airport to Ciampino Airport, located around 8 miles to the south of the city. This smaller airport is now mainly used by charter carriers. ERasyjet recently announced its intentions to switch its Rome operations from Ciampino to Fiumicino airport.
