Conrad to debut in Macau next year

5 Aug 2011

Hilton Worldwide has announced a collaboration with Sands China to open Macau’s first Conrad hotel next year, adding to the already saturated hotel scene.

The planned 636-room property will be located on the Cotai Strip and will be part of an integrated development, which will consist of meeting and convention spaces for the MICE industry, luxury retail outlets, entertainment options and of course two large casinos. The Conrad hotel itself will offer four food and beverage outlets, a health club, spa and outdoor pool.

This project, however, will face intense competition from the mammoth integrated resorts already present around Macau’s Cotai Strip, including the newly opened Galaxy Macau, which consists of three hotel brands, the 3,000-room Venetian Macao (which also belongs to Sands China's portfolio) and the City of Dreams complex, which also consists of three large hotels.

John Vanderslice, global head of luxury and lifestyle brands for Hilton Worldwide, said: “Adding a Conrad in an exciting location like Macau reflects the brand’s intent to have a presence in the world’s gateway cities.”

Hilton Worldwide announced earlier this year that the group is planning an aggressive growth strategy in Asia-Pacific driven by its upscale Conrad and Waldorf Astoria brands that target the upwardly affluent Asian traveller (see story here). The group has a strong pipeline of 130 properties across the Asia-Pacific region, of which 18 are Conrad branded properties.
