InterContinental Singapore refreshes shophouse rooms

3 Aug 2011

InterContinental Singapore, located in the Bugis Junction complex, has unveiled its signature Peranakan wing which has been closed since February for refurbishment.

The refreshed product consists of 65 shophouse units – 54 rooms and 11 suites, whose foundations date back to the 1920s and are inspired by the unique Malay-Strats Chinese culture.

To cater to modern sensitivities, the rooms have now been fitted with a Bose wave music system, 46-inch LED TV and iPhone docking stations, while retaining original architectural detailing, such as wooden window shutters and intricate carvings. Guests staying here will receive complimentary Peranakan canapés and access to the club lounge, which is also features a Peranakan theme.
