The GdF union has called a six-hour strike from 0600 tomorrow (Thursday August 4), following the rejection of revised wage proposals.
Should the strike take place it is likely to affect flights operating over the country, as well as those departing from and arriving into German cities.
It is still possible that the strike may be averted, with union talks continuing today, and DFS, the company in charge of the country's air traffic control operations, is seeking a court order to stop the strikes going ahead.
As of 1130 BST today the homepage of Lufthansa's website was carrying the following statement:
"There is a possibility of an air traffic controllers strike in Germany on Thursday August 4 between 6am and 12pm.
"We will observe the further development and will make preparations for our customers if necessary.
"We will update this page as soon as we have further information, approximately today in the late afternoon german time."
Germanwings says it has resheduled several early morning flights from Cologne / Bonn airport to Palma, Thessaloniki and Kavala, "to make arrangements for a possible reduction in the number of tourist flights" - for more information click here.
