Skymark Airlines has ordered two more Airbus A380s at the Paris Air Show, in addition to the four superjumbos it ordered in February this year (see story here).
The new aircraft will be used when the carrier begins an international network with flights between Tokyo and London, Paris and Frankfurt however a delivery timeline has not yet been announced.
Skymark is the first Japanese carrier to go for this aircraft type, taking the lead ahead of competitors Japan Airlines (JAL) and All Nippon Airways (ANA) that generally stick with Boeing aircraft.
Tom Enders, Airbus chief executive and president, said: “We appreciate the strong and renewed vote of confidence from our first Japanese A380 airline customer.”
Skymark is a low-cost domestic carrier operating out of Tokyo Haneda. Eventually, the carrier will break into long-haul routes while continuing to offer lower prices than its competitors.
