Airbus delivers 50th A380 superjumbo

20 Jun 2011 by BusinessTraveller

The aircraft manufacturer has now delivered 50 superjumbos since the aircraft was launched in 2007, with Singapore Airlines adding a 12th A380 to its fleet.

A total of six carriers now operate the superjumbo, with Emirates leading the way with 15 A380s in its fleet, followed by SIA with 12, Qantas with ten, Lufthansa with seven, Air France with five, and Korean Air having taken delivery of its first superjumbo last month.

The next carrier scheduled to launch A380 services is China Southern in September – the layout of its superjumbo was leaked on Chinese social media site Sina Weibo earlier this year (see online news April 4).

Malaysia Airlines will follow in 2012, and its A380s are set to feature a brand new premium economy class, a first for the carrier (see online news January 24, 2010).

There have been a total of 234 firm orders for the A380, with Emirates alone ordering 90 superjumbos. Hong Kong Airlines also looks set to announce an A380 order at this week's Paris Air Show (see online news June 14).
