Flights for over 30 foreign airlines including BA, Lufthansa, Air France and Emirates will now depart from Doha International’s newly-opened Terminal B.
The existing facility has now been renamed Terminal A, and will be used solely for Qatar Airways flights, although both facilities will share the same Duty Free shopping, lounges and parking.
The new Terminal B includes an enlarged check-in area with 35 counters and an online check-in lounge, as well as a dedicated customer service desk for oversized luggage, a currency exchange bureau, ATM machines, a new high-tech baggage handling system, and food and beverage outlets.
Following the opening of the new Terminal B, facilities within Terminal A will now be upgraded, including “a more spacious check-in area, additional boarding gates over the next few months and a significant revamp of the Oryx Lounge”.
The terminal is located on the site of the airport’s former Arrivals building, which in turn has been moved to a new building on the site of the temporary terminal built for the 2006 Doha Asian Games.
And of course all of this is just a temporary measure ahead of the opening of New Doha International Airport, currently scheduled for the end of 2012 (see online news March 16).
