Singapore Airlines has unveiled a long-term partnership with the newly rebranded Virgin Australia, scheduled to commence in August, yet the carriers are still awaiting regulatory approval for the tie-up.
The agreement will enable interline journeys for SIA passengers on Virgin Australia’s domestic network. Also, Gold members of SIA’s KrisFlyer and Virgin Australia’s Velocity frequent flyer programmes (FFP) will have access to both carriers’ airport lounges.
By the end of this year, the agreement will entail more reciprocal benefits for both FFPs, such as being able to earn or redeem miles on each other’s flights. The two carriers will also further co-ordinate flight schedules to enable seamless connections and engage in joint sales of seats.
The entire agreement is still being discussed and further details have not been disclosed yet.
SIA chief executive Goh Choon Phong said: “With regulatory approval, the partnership will enable us to offer even more choice for domestic and international air travel.”
