Bmi to switch to A330 on Freetown, Almaty and Bishkek routes

1 Jun 2011 by BusinessTraveller

From late June Bmi will replace the B757 and A321 aircraft currently serving these routes with a A330 aircraft, which the carrier says will result in a “substantial product upgrade for customers in Africa and CIS states”.

The A330 will be rostered onto the Heathrow-Almaty route (which then continues on to Bishkek) from June 25, and on the Heathrow-Freetown route from June 26. Customers on the Freetown route in particular will benefit, as the A330 aircraft will not be required to stop for refuelling enroute, as was previously the case with the A321 aircraft.

The A330 aircraft had itself been leased out by Bmi, but returning to the fleet it is one of two operated by the carrier, the other one serving routes to Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam.

The wide-bodied aircraft features 196 seats in economy, with a 32-inch seat pitch and six degrees of recline, and 36 seats in business class offering a 60-inch seat pitch and 50 degrees of recline. Both cabins feature a 15-inch personal TV screen.

To celebrate the introduction of the A330 on the routes Bmi is offering promotional fares of £479 in economy and £1,479 in business class to Almaty, and £499 in economy and £1,499 in business class to Bishkek.
