BA launches Windows 7 mobile boarding app

24 May 2011 by BusinessTraveller

British Airways has teamed up with Microsoft to bring mobile boarding to Windows Phone 7 users.

While the airline already offers mobile boarding apps for iPhone, Blackberry and Android users, this is the first time the functionality has been extended to Windows 7 customers. Some 20,000 BA customers a week currently use the airline’s apps for mobile boarding.

Like BA’s earlier apps, the new one is available only to Executive Club members and is free to download.

The app has been designed so you don’t have to rifle through your emails to find your boarding pass, or keep re-entering your BA Executive membership number. Instead, the pass can be accessed by pressing once on the BA logo stored on your phone.

Also stored here are your gate number and up-to-date information about your flight status, as well as a map of the terminal and your miles balance. The app can also be used to check in 24 hours before you fly.

During a pre-launch trial of the app, I was impressed by how using the app made my boarding and departure smoother, and all the information I needed was a couple of seconds away. For a full review of my flight with BA’s new app, click here.

Nick Hedderman, head of apps strategy and marketing at Microsoft UK, said: “By taking advantage of Windows Phone 7’s engaging platform, British Airways’ customers will experience a fresh, intuitive app that enables them to access vital information.”

The app will be available on the Windows Phone Marketplace from June 1.
